ERTU (Egyptian Radio and Television Union), the Egyptian state television, has acquired the broadcasting rights to the 2013-14 national championship, on the 17/12/2013. The transaction is worth 70 million Egyptian pounds (nearly € 7.5 million).

The 2013-14 Egyptian Premier League season will start on the 26/12/2013, following the cancellation of two consecutive seasons (see below). "The Egyptian TV will be the sole party responsible for selling the rights to satellite channels," said Azmy Megahed, EFA (Egyptian Football Association) spokesman to Ahram online website, on the 17/12/2013.

Cairo club Al-Ahly refused to sign the agreement to sell their media rights to ERTU, as did the other 21 clubs that will play the 2013-14 championship. They instead plan to sell the rights to their matches individually, however it remains uncertain as to whether or not they will be permitted to do so.

"The Egyptian TV will exclusively broadcast the matches as the information ministry aims to lift any burdens off the Egyptian people, who should watch the matches without any pay-per-view subscriptions"…
