FIFA: Marco Van Basten (NED) to step down as chief technical development officer on 31/10/2018

The Dutchman Marco Van Basten is to step down as FIFA's chief technical development officer on 31/10/2018 (the day of his 54^th birthday), in order to "to spend more time in the Netherlands with his family," announced the international federation on 12/10/2018.

Van Basten, former Dutch international and three-time winner of the Ballon d'Or (1988, 1989 and 1992) joined FIFA in 2016 and "oversaw FIFA's Technical Development Division, playing a leading role in developing new technology and innovation in football, as well as working closely with member associations to develop and enhance technical areas in football, coaching and refereeing," said FIFA.

"Since joining the organisation in 2016 (on 09/29/2016), Marco has been instrumental in the growth and development of FIFA's Technical Development Division. In particular, Marco has played an important role to reconnect the institution with its technical community," said Zvonimir Boban (CRO), deputy secretary general of FIFA, in charge of football, on 12/10/2018.
