Italy: Gabriele Gravina, sole candidate, is elected as FIGC president with 97.2% of the votes

Gabriele Gravina, born on 05/10/1953, has been elected as president of the Italian Federation (FIGC) at its Elective Assembly at the Hilton Rome Airport hotel in Fiumicino (ITA), today (Monday 22/10/2018). As the sole candidate, Gravina gained 97.2% of the votes (2.8% blank votes).

At the age of 65, Gabriele Gravina will succeed Roberto Fabbricini, secretary general of CONI, who has headed the FIGC since 01/02/2018 (as extraordinary commissioner), after the failure to elect a president despite four rounds of voting on 29/01/2018. Carlo Tavecchio, previous president of the FIGC, announced his resignation on 20/11/2017, a week after the elimination of the Italian national team from qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, who lost their UEFA-zone play-off versus Sweden (1-0 to Sweden on aggregate) on 13/11/2017.
