Facebook to buy SportStream, a company specialising in the gathering of sports data

Social network Facebook has bought SportStream, a company specialising in the gathering, aggregation and real-time analysis of sports data for sport professionals (clubs, media, distributors...), on the 18/12/2013. This acquisition should help Facebook's media partners to find and exploit sports content on the social network, including via API (Application Programming Interface).

"We will be able to build a better experience for the people who use Facebook, and for our partners who depend on us for real-time insights," said Justin Osofsky, vice president of media partnerships at Facebook, on the 18/12/2013.

Facebook has 1.15 billion users worldwide (in June 2013), and 819 million mobile users. In France, 26 million users have registered on the platform.

Sport has an important part in discussions on Facebook. In Spain, Real Madrid are the most discussed topic on Facebook and Bayern Munich the most discussed topic in Germany in 2013. In France, Paris Saint-Germain were the most discussed topic on the social network in 2013.
