Sportel: "Football bureaucracy in Europe is very different than American leagues" (J. Tebas, LaLiga)

"I'm still asking myself this, why so much resistance to a business strategy (about LaLiga Santander playing one regular season game per year in the United States)? I think a lot of it is cultural. Cultural in that the bureaucracy that football has built (in Europe) is very different than the American sports leagues. There is this concept of the 'football family' in Europe, and this can be very closed, very limiting in a lot of ways," said Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, during the Sportel Monaco 2018 conference on 23/10/2018.

As part of an agreement with Relevent (US media, sports and entertainment company), to create a joint venture to promote football in the United States and Canada, LaLiga announced the possibility of holding an official match of the Spanish League in the US each season for the next 15 years, on 16/08/2018.
