NBA: NextVR expands its Virtual Reality (VR) services offering for the 2018 regular season

NextVR, an American audiovisual production company, is offering the National Basketball Association new virtual reality (VR) services on NBA League Pass, the OTT platform of the NBA, on 16/10/2018. NextVR is increasing its distribution of VR experiences to include Oculus Rift and HTC Vive media for the virtual reality broadcast of 26 regular season NBA games via NBA League Pass.

NextVR has been an official partner of the NBA since 20/10/2016. As with the previous two seasons, an average of one weekly game will be offered in VR on NBA League Pass during 2018-19 (see programme below).

"NextVR will continue to feature weekly immersive stereoscopic 3D games, along with 2D streaming of all League Pass games in NextVR Screening Room and other on-demand content in the NextVR League Pass channel of the NextVR app," said the company.

  • The initial agreement between the NBA National Basketball Association, the North American professional basketball league and NextTV on 20/10/2016 allowed for the broadcast of games uniquely via a Samsung smartphone and the Samsung Gear VR helmet.
