Germany: ARD and ZDF acquire broadcasting rights to men's international handball Championships

The German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF have acquired for Germany, through their media rights agency SportA, the broadcasting rights to the German national team games during the Men's World and European Handball Championships for the 2019-2025 period, on 22/10/2018.

These rights, acquired from the agencies Lagardère Sports (World) and Infront (European Championships), include the 2019 World Championships played in Germany and Denmark (10-27/01/2019) and the Euro 2024 played in Germany. The agreement also includes the 2021 (Egypt), 2023 (Poland and Sweden) and 2025 (not yet allocated) World Championships and the 2020 (Austria, Norway and Sweden) and 2022 European Championships.

The European Handball Federation (EHF) awarded the organisation of the 2022 European Men's Handball Championship to Slovakia and Hungary on 20/06/2018. The Denmark-Switzerland bid, originally scheduled for the Men's 2022 edition, was withdrawn on Monday 18/06/2018 in order to bid for the 2024 edition, which was finally awarded to Germany.
