The funeral of the former Portuguese international player Eusebio da Silva Ferreira, who died at the age of 71 as a result of heart failure on the 05/01/2014, will be held in Lisbon on the 06/01/2014.

"Portugal has today lost one of its most dearly beloved sons. As well as being a huge footballing idol, he was a humble person who shone off the pitch as well. He made millions of people happy. Portugal mourns you, Eusebio," said Aníbal Cavaco Silva, President of the Republic of Portugal.

Born in Portugal's former colony of Mozambique, Eusebio won the Champions Cup in 1962 with Benfica (5-3 final win against Real Madrid). Winner of the Ballon d'Or in 1965, he allowed the Portuguese team to finish third at the 1966 World Cup and was the top scorer of the tournament with 9 goals.

Eusebio's coffin was installed in a chapel at the Luz stadium, home of Benfica, in Lisbon on the 05/01/2014. After a lap of honour in the stadium, a mass will be celebrated on the 06/01/2014 in a nearby church, followed by burial in Lumiar in the northern suburb of the Portuguese capital.
