Formula 1: Briton Lewis Hamilton crowned world champion for the fifth time

Lewis Hamilton (GBR) was crowned Formula 1 World Champion for the fifth time in his career (2008, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018), following his fourth place finish at the 19^th race of the season (out of 21), the F1 Grand Prix of Mexico organized by the Formula One Group on 28/10/2018. The Briton has been part of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport team since the 2013 season.

Hamilton now equals the Argentine driver Juan-Manuel Fangio (1951, 1954, 1955, 1956, 1957). With seven world titles (1994, 1995 and 2000 to 2004), the German Michael Schumacher still holds the record for the number of championships won in Formula 1.

The British driver has 17.4 million followers on social networks (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter), the highest total among F1 drivers (on 29/10/2018).

The five-time world champion has a deal of £40m per season (€44.7m on 19/07/2018) with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport until 2020, according to the British daily The Telegraph. Hamilton became an ambassador for Tommy Hilfiger, the American fashion brand, on 15/03/2018.
