"FC Schalke 04, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga), the three most popular clubs in North Rhine-Westphalia, have signed a declaration of intent to jointly promote football in China's Jiangsu Province," according to the Gelsenkirchen club, FC Schalke, on 23/10/2018.

This declaration of intent aims to bring about a football-based relationship between the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Chinese province of Jiangsu. The objective is to "promote exchanges and organise mutual visits between the administrative services in charge of sport and the football clubs of the two regions, as well as to ensure cooperation on the training of young players," added FC Schalke 04, which has had an academy in the city of Kunshan and organised summer camps for young footballers in China since 2015.

"Our commitment to China, especially to Kunshan and the Jiangsu region, has been ongoing for many years and is an important commitment to the club and to our partners," said Alexander Jobst, marketing director at FC Schalke 04.
