NBA: Geico (car insurance) becomes a jersey sponsor of the Washington Wizards

Geico, a US car insurance company, has become a jersey sponsor of the Washington Wizards (NBA) as part of a "multi-year sponsorship agreement" which is "effective immediately," according to the National Basketball Association on 02/11/2018. The Wizards become the 26^th NBA franchise to have a jersey sponsor. The value of the agreement has not yet been communicated.

The NBA authorised the franchises of the league to market sponsorship space on their jerseys on 15/04/2016. The experimental phase will last three seasons and has been in effect from 2017-18 season, at the same time as the start of the NBA's equipment contract with Nike. The Geico logo will appear on the left pocket space, the opposite side of Nike. Owned by Michael Jordan, the Charlotte Hornets franchise is the only one to have the logo of the Jordan brand (Nike group), instead of the comma Nike, on his jersey.

The advertisers cannot be political groups, gambling companies, alcohol brands, or competitors of some of the NBA's official partners: ESPN, ABC, Turner (media), Nike (sports equipment brand, from 2017-18)…
