MLB: Fox extends TV rights in the US until 2028 ($714m/year); DAZN signs a 3-year contract ($300m)

The US pay-TV group Fox Sports has extended its MLB broadcast rights in the US for seven seasons, until 2028, on 15/11/2018. The value of the deal is $5bn (€4.45bn), or $714m (€635m) per year, according to US media.

This figure is up 36% compared to the current contract as Fox Sports, a broadcaster of the MLB since 1996, has been paying an estimated $525m (€467m) per year over the 2014-2021 cycle.

Meanwhile, the OTT platform DAZN has acquired the rights to broadcast the "key plays" of the MLB games each week night (in the form of a multiplex), for an estimated $300m (€267m) over three years (2019-2021 cycle), on 16/11/2018. This deal is DAZN's first in the US with one of the five major North American sports leagues (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS).
