DKB Handball Bundesliga: total attendance of 1,430,198 spectators (4,673 per match) in 2017-18

The 18 DKB Handball Bundesliga clubs posted a total attendance of 1,430,198 spectators for the 2017-18 season, down 4.3% from 2016-17 (1,494,465), according to data from the German handball league. The total average attendance per club was 79,455 spectators, or 4,673 spectators per game for each of the 306 matches.

THW Kiel recorded the best total attendance of the German clubs in 2017-18 with 174,843 spectators hosted at the Sparkassen-Arena (13,500 capacity), and an average fill rate of 76.2%. The TuS N-Lübbecke posted the lowest total attendance with 29,600 spectators at the Merkur Arena (3,300 capacity), with a fill rate of 52.8%.

Excluding the clubs TSV Hannover-Burgdorf and TVB 1898 Stuttgart, who are playing their matches in two halls each (see below), the average fill rate of the 16 of the 18 clubs of the league was 75.3% for the 2017-18 season.

By way of comparison, in Germany, the Deutschen Eishockey Liga (ice hockey league) posted a total of 2.5 million spectators in 2017-18, with an average of 6,141 spectators for each of the 407 matches played by its 14 clubs…
