Balfour Beatty wins a € 186 million contract for the renovation of the Olympic Stadium in London

The British construction company Balfour Beatty has won a € 186 million contract, for the renovation of the Olympic Stadium in London, on the 07/01/2014.

The renovation includes a reduction of the capacity of the stadium which hosted the Olympics in 2012. It will be reduced from 80,000 to 54,000 seats. A new roof to shelter all the spectators will be built. For this project, a contract worth € 49.5 million was won by the English construction company in July 2013. This amount is included in the € 186 million of the contract.

The renovation work will also include the installation of retractable seating to cover the athletics track. The technology used should be similar to the mechanism for moving the lower stands of the Stade de France.

Work should begin by the first quarter of 2014 and be completed in spring 2016.
