The manager of Bologna FC 1909 (Serie A), Stefano Pioli has been sacked, the club announced on the 07/01/2014, after the ninth defeat in eighteen fixtures, during the match against Catania (2 - 0) last in ranking, on the 06/01/2014.

Stefano Pioli has trained the team since the 04/10/2011. He is the sixth coach to be sacked in Serie A since the beginning of the 2013-14 season. In 2012-13, out of the 20 coaches in Serie A, 13 were fired during the season.

Bologna are ranked 17th with 15 points. They are only one point ahead of the 18th, Sassuolo, currently in relegation zone.

"Bologna FC 1909 announce, in the light of recent disappointing results, that they are forced, with great regret to terminate the contract of the first team's manager, Stefano Pioli. The club sincerely thanks Pioli and his staff for the work done in recent years with great professionalism, passion and an extraordinary commitment to the club," Bologna FC 1909 stated.
