Piracy: the Lega Serie A wants to block illegal streaming during matches

Lega Serie A wants to take inspiration from the Premier League by blocking illegal streaming during matches, according to the Italian daily Il Corriere Della Sera on 18/11/2018.

If UK ISPs can block servers hosting illegal feeds during live broadcasts of Premier League matches, the Italian blocking is done later, at the level of applications and sites broadcasting the matches.

"Piracy is a crime that not only damages clubs and fans but deprives the flow of the resources necessary to grow," said Gaetano Miccichè, president of the Lega Serie A.

"In the first 10 matchdays of the 2018-19 Serie A TIM, 18,000 illegal streams were intercepted and blocked. The figure is increasing compared to the same period of the previous tournament (2017-18) when at the end of the season it reached 65 thousand with Juventus FC, FC Internazionale Milano and AC Milan on the podium of the most pirated teams," said Corriere Della Sera.
