CIES: French players accumulate the most playing time in the Top 5 European leagues in 2018-19

French players accumulate the most playing time in the Top 5 European leagues (Bundesliga, LaLiga Santander, Ligue 1 Conforama, Premier League and Serie A TIM) in 2018-19 with 19.7% of the total minutes played, according to issue number 241 of the CIES Football Observatory's weekly post, on 26/11/2018.

The French are ahead of the Spaniards (15.2% of the total minutes played) and Germans (9.8%) on the podium, while Brazilians (sixth in the ranking, 5.3%) are the most represented non-European players, ahead of Argentineans (seventh, 3.8%) in terms of playing time in the Top 5.

"The greatest values for players originating from abroad were recorded for the French in England (10.9%) and Germany (8.0%), the Brazilians in Italy (7.0%) and France (6.8%), as well as for the Argentineans in Spain (also 6.8%). The English Premier League hosts the representatives from the most countries (54). This figure is 50 in the Serie A TIM, 46 in the Ligue 1 Conforama, 45 in the Bundesliga and only 40 in LaLiga Santander," added the CIES.
