Egypt: Al-Ahly club to sell their TV rights to free-to-air channel CBC in 2013-14

Egyptian club Al-Ahly have sold the TV rights of their first division home games for 2013-14 season, to Future Media & Telecommunications Group, owner of free-to-air satellite TV-channel CBC (Capital Broadcasting Center), the club announced on the 10/01/2014.

The deal is worth 41 million Egyptian pounds, or about € 4.3 million. ERTU (Egyptian Radio and Television Union), the Egyptian state television, has acquired the broadcasting rights to the 2013-14 season of the national championship, for € 7.5 million, on the 17/12/2013.

The Cairo club Al-Ahly had not signed the agreement to sell their championship TV-rights to ERTU, opting to sell them on an individual basis, while the current regulations of the EFA (Egyptian Football Association) do not indicate clearly if clubs are allowed to do so, according to Egyptian media.
