LaLiga Santander: FC Barcelona abandons plan to stage match in the USA versus Girona FC

"The FC Barcelona board of directors have agreed to withdraw their disposal to play their game against Girona FC in Miami (Florida, USA), after noting a lack of consensus over this proposal," announced the Catalan club on 10/12/2018.

As part of an agreement with Relevent, an American company specialised in media, sports and entertainment, to create a joint venture to promote football in the United States and Canada, LaLiga announced the possibility of holding an official match of the Spanish league in the US each season for the next 15 years, on 16/08/2018. It was envisaged that the match between Girona FC and Barcelona (Matchday 21 of the 2018-19 LaLiga Santander season) would take place at the Hard Rock Stadium (64,982 capacity) in Miami on Saturday 26/01/2019 (kick-off at 14:45 local time, 20:45 CET).
