Bundesliga: FC Schalke 04 opens office in Shanghai to "consolidate its presence in China"

FC Schalke 04 (Bundesliga) have opened an office in Shanghai, China, on 01/12/2018, in order to "further strategically expand and consolidate its presence in China as well as to strengthen its contact with local Schalke fans," said the club, on 13/12/2018.

"Opening our own office in the Chinese city of Shanghai is an important step in FC Schalke 04's expansion strategy," added the club. Philipp Rütgers, who previously worked as head of partnerships at FC Bayern Munich's office in Shanghai which opened in September 2016, has been appointed managing director of Schalke 04 (Shanghai) Sports Consulting Ltd, a company created for the occasion.

"We are delighted that we have now been able to open our own company in Shanghai. In this country, where football is growing at an impressive rate, we want to further strengthen our position. Through our presence in the market, we now have the opportunity to increase contact with our fans and deepen our partnerships with sponsors and media representatives," said Alexander Jobst, chief marketing officer of FC Schalke 04.
