Argentina: with 50,000 sold, Boca Juniors pink shirt beats club record

Boca Juniors and kit supplier Nike have successfully marketed 50,000 replicas of their pink shirt for the 2013 season, which constitutes a club record sale for an "alternative" shirt, on the 15/01/2014.

Sold at a price of 62 euros, the shirts have generated €3.1 million for the club.

Upon its release in July 2013, the shirts caused considerable controversy among fans of the club on Facebook and Twitter. The Argentine federation forbade Boca Juniors from playing in this color during the championship, on the 09/10/2013, without justifying the reason, nor the amount of the potential fine. The Argentine international and Boca player Juan Román Riquelme, had also spoken out against the wearing of the "camiseta rosa".

The federation eventually allowed the club to compete in the controversial shirt in a match against Gimnasia La Plata (1-1, 19th and last day of the opening championship), on the 08/12/2013.
