Africa Cup of Nations: "Cameroon officially accepts to host the 2021 edition" (CAF)

"Ahmad Ahmad (CAF president) informs that at the request of the Confederation of African Football, Cameroon has formally accepted to host the 2021 edition (of the AFCON), via a letter addressed to CAF and signed by the Cameroonian Head of State, Mr Paul Biya. The CAF president expresses his gratitude to President Biya for his great understanding," announced the CAF on 21/12/2018.

Cameroon thus will manage the organisation in 2021 of a competition which it was originally scheduled to welcome in 2019.

"The 2019 Total African Cup of Nations, with its new format of 24 teams (instead of 16) and scheduled from 15/06 to 13/07/2019, will not take place in Cameroon, as originally planned," said the CAF after the meeting of its executive committee in Accra (GHA), chaired by Ahmad Ahmad (MAD), on 30/11/2018. This decision was based on the results of the last inspection visits concerning safety as well as facilities and infrastructure.
