The 2013 winter transfer window in La Liga was characterised by a positive balance of payments of €9.5m, an amount unmatched among the five major European championships. This is despite the lowest number of purchase and sales in the European Top 5: €13.6m of purchases and sales of about €23.2m.

The Spanish transfer market was also characterised by the second lowest number (110) of transactions, behind the Bundesliga (104), and overall fairly low investments. Thus, the two Spanish clubs that invested most during the 2013 winter transfer window, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have only spent €3.5m, the lowest "biggest spenders" of the European Top 5.

The proportion of the loans in the total volume of transactions of the Spanish market was 45% of departures and 44% of arrivals. These were made mainly with the Liga Adelante (Spanish second division) and the lower divisions.
