"Artificial intelligence (AI) offers infinite possibilities for the transmission of matches: automatic data extraction, automatic sequence cutting, hyper-personalisation of content, the production of summaries ready for broadcast during live broadcasts or the creation of intermediate images for slow motion," said Nicolas Deal, VandA manager and TV transmission manager at UEFA, at a workshop entitled "How artificial intelligence is revolutionising broadcasting," held at Tremplin, an incubator for sports start-ups, in Paris (FRA) on 16/01/2019.

"From fixed cameras, AI is able to produce slow-motion and clippings (mini-highlights) automatically. It will also be used for multi-production, for different formats. A wide shot when watching a game on a smartphone is not very interesting. The AI is able to create dedicated content for this type of media," said Nicolas Deal.

"Reading the game, on the other hand, remains something complicated for AI. For example, it is difficult to imagine a sequence without a ball, this remains in the human domain. Moreover, the AIs have no emotions, so I…
