Liga: Gabriel Calderón, third manager of Real Betis since the beginning of the 2013-14 season

Gabriel Calderón has been appointed manager of Real Betis (La Liga, ESP), announced the Seville-based club on 19/01/2014. He takes over for the Spaniard Juan Carlos Garrido, in place since 12/02/2013 and sacked on 19/01/2014. This replacement follows the home defeat of the club against Real Madrid (0-5, Matchday 20), on 18/01/2014. Calderón's contract runs until the end of the 2013-14 season, plus a second year, should the club stay up.

This is the first time the Argentine Calderón will manage a team in Spain. The former Argentine international (23 caps, 1 goal) was previously manager of Saudi Arabia (2004-05), Oman (2007-08) and Bahrain (2012-13). He also managed the French club SM Caen (1997) and the Swiss club FC Lausanne-Sport (2002-03).

Calderón becomes the third manager of Real Betis since the beginning of the 2013-14 season, after Pepe Mel, sacked on 02/12/2013, and Juan Carlos Garrido.
