Zoopla to end sponsorship of West Bromwich Albion over Nicolas Anelka's "quenelle" gesture

Property website Zoopla has announced on the 20/01/2014, that "in light of the actions of striker Nicolas Anelka," it will not continue its shirt sponsorship of West Bromwich Albion (Premier League, ANG) beyond the 2013-14 season.

This company, 50%-owned by Jewish businessman Alex Chesterman, is accusing Nicolas Anelka of having performed a "quenelle" gesture during the match against West Ham United (3-3, matchday 19) on the 28/12/2013. The gesture, considered by the 34 years old striker as "anti-system" is considered anti-Semitic by many observers. Zoopla has been WBA's shirt sponsor since the beginning of the 2012-13 season. The partnership, estimated at € 1.8 million per year, will expire at the end of the 2013-14 championship.

The French player is facing a five-game suspension if the FA (Football Association), following the opening of an investigation, finds him guilty of discrimination. The Federation should give their decision on the 21/01/2014.
