Liga BBVA: Qatar Airways would be candidate for the naming of FC Barcelona's Camp Nou

Airline Qatar Airways would be candidate to acquire the naming rights to the Camp Nou (99,350 seats) in Barcelona, reported the Spanish newspaper As, on the 17/01/2014.

The Qatari company would be willing to offer € 350 million over 30 years to FC Barcelona, or almost € 11.6 million per year. This income could facilitate the infrastructure project of the Catalan club, which decided to renovate their stadium, on the 21/01/2014. Qatar Airways will also pay € 30.5m in 2013-14, € 32m in 2014-15 and € 33.5m in 2015-16, to be the shirt sponsor of FC Barcelona.

  • The Nou Camp renovation project includes adding a roof to cover all the stands, as well as increasing the stadium capacity to 105,000 seats. The project would cost between 300 and €400 million.
  • "There are two projects between which we have not made our choice. But in all cases, the Barcelona stadium will have a capacity of 105,000 spectators and the stands will be fully covered," had said Toni Freixa, spokesman of the club, on the 09/12/2013. FC Barcelona will submit their decision to a referendum.
