Liga BBVA: FC Barcelona's board of directors to choose to renovate the Camp Nou in 2017

FC Barcelona's (Liga BBVA) board of directors has chosen to renovate the Camp Nou (99,350 seats) rather than building a new stadium, on the 20/01/2014. A referendum will be held on the 05 and 06/04/2014 to allow the socios of the club to give their opinion on the subject.

The whole project represents a cost of € 600m. "€ 420m will be used for the renovation of the Camp Nou, € 90m for the construction of the new Palau Blaugrana (an arena of 10,000 seats), and € 90m will be devoted to parking spaces (5,000 spaces), the new Mini Estadi (youth teams stadium) and Espai Barça (retail space)," said Javier Faus, vice-president of the club. "The option of building a new stadium on a new site has been dismissed as the final cost could well mortgage the club's future," said the president of FC Barcelona, Sandro Rosell.

The new Camp Nou capacity will be 105,000, with every seat under cover. The lower tier will be rebuilt to gain verticality and the third ring will be completed. A full roof will be added to the project. Construction work should begin in May 2017 and end in February 2021. The…
