Bundesliga: Bayern Munich want to increase the capacity of the Allianz Arena to 75,000 seats

Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) want to increase the capacity of the Allianz Arena to 75,000 seats, announced the German newspaper Münchner Merkur on 21/01/2014. The stadium currently holds 67,812 seats that comply with UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) standards. Including standing room, the club has 71,137 seats available for national competitions.

"We will do everything in our power to increase the capacity of the stadium. It seems that we should soon have 75,000 seats," said club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge during a meeting with supporters. However, Bayern Munich should not formally announce it before the municipal elections in Germany to be held on 16/03/2014. The expansion of the stadium is subject to safety standards requiring the approval of the municipality.

The club wants to provide Allianz Arena with an additional 2,000 seats, and standing room for 2,000 more, to allow the venue to count more than 71,000 seats for international fixtures and 75,000 seats for domestic competition.
