Liga: Sandro Rosell could resign as president of FC Barcelona (Spanish media)

Sandro Rosell is expected to announce his resignation from his position as president of FC Barcelona, at a special meeting of the board of directors, on the 23/01/2014 at 6pm, according to several Spanish sources. His first term as president of the Catalan club, which started in 2010, should normally end in 2016. According to the statutes of the club, vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu would become president of Barça.

Sandro Rosell's possible resignation follows the decision of the Spanish court to investigate a complaint against him and the club, for "simulated contract" for the Brazilian player Neymar. "It is a charge without basis," responded the president of Barça, on the 10/01/2014.

Neymar was transferred to Barcelona, from Brazilian club Santos on the 03/06/2013, for € 57 million. Of this amount, € 17 million went to Santos, the remaining € 40 million were paid to DIS, TEISA (Terceira Estrela Investimentos SA) and N&N, the companies holding a part of the economic rights of the player. But the Spanish club refused to disclose full details, for "privacy reasons."
