Liga: Resignation of Sandro Rosell, Josep Maria Bartomeu becomes new president of FC Barcelona

Sandro Rosell has announced his "irrevocable" resignation from his position as president of FC Barcelona (Liga), during an extraordinary meeting of the Board of Directors, on the 23/01/2014. His first term as president of the Catalan club, which started in 2010, should normally have ended in 2016. According to the statutes of the club, vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu will replace him until the end of the term.

"In recent days an unfair and reckless accusation of misappropriation has resulted in a lawsuit against me in the Audiencia Nacional. From the beginning I have said that the signing of Neymar Junior has been correct and his signing has caused despair and envy in some of our adversaries," said Sandro Rosell after the extraordinary meeting.

"The right of the club members to be informed needs to be compatible with the defence of the club and confidentiality of certain matters and facts.
