Bundesliga/2.Bundesliga: record of 9.4 million tickets sold in the first half of the 2018-19 season

"In the first half of the current 2018-19 season, the number of 9,418,148 tickets sold by the 36 professional clubs marked a record" and "represented an increase of around 220,000 tickets or 2.4% compared with the first half of the 2017-18 season (9,198,684)," announced the DFL, on 07/02/2019.

"The average number of tickets sold per Bundesliga match declined moderately by 2.8% to 42,217 compared with the previous season, meaning the Bundesliga remained the undisputed leader among Europe's top leagues," added the German league.

This decrease is mainly due to the relegation of Hamburger Sport-Verein (an average of 50,656 spectators in 2017-18) and 1. FC Köln (48,776) to the 2.Bundesliga at the end of the 2017-18 season, and the promotion of 1. Fußball Club Nürnberg and Fortuna Düsseldorf, two clubs with a lower average attendance (see below).

The German second division, the 2.Bundesliga, however, posted a significant increase in the number of tickets sold (+15.9%) with an average of 19,339 per game.
