LaLiga Santander: "We should play three matches per season abroad" (J. Bartomeu, FC Barcelona)

"We have already spoken several times with LaLiga and told them that if they want to promote LaLiga Santander even more, we should play three matches per season abroad, one on the American continent, one in the Middle East and one in Asia," said Josep Maria Bartomeu, president of FC Barcelona, on 12/02/2019.

As part of an agreement with Relevent (an American company specialised in media, sports and entertainment) to create a joint venture to promote football in the United States and Canada, LaLiga announced on 16/08/2018 that it would hold an official match of the Spanish league in the United States each season for the next 15 years. It was planned that the match between Girona FC and Barcelona (Matchday 21 of the 2018-19 LaLiga Santander season) would take place at the Hard Rock Stadium (64,982 capacity) in Miami on Saturday 26/01/2019.
