VAR: "The technology worked perfectly" in the four Champions League games (R. Rosetti, UEFA)

"I am very happy with the way VAR was implemented, the technology worked perfectly, and the refereeing teams performed at a very high level. It showed all the hard work we have put in," said Roberto Rosetti (ITA), chief refereeing officer for UEFA on 15/02/2019, after the first 2018-19 Champions League matches to be officiated with the use of the Video Assistant Referee (in Manchester, Rome, Amsterdam and London), on 12 and 13/02/2019.

The video assistant referees (VARs) assumed their duties in the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League Round of 16, following the UEFA Executive Committee's decision on 03/12/2018, which corrected the decision made on 27/09/2018, announcing the introduction of VAR in the 2019-20 Champions League from the August 2019 play-off stages of the competition.

"The technology was successfully deployed at all venues with the VAR teams embedded on-site at the different stadiums for the round of 16 first legs.
