Turkey: Yildirim Demirören resigns as president of the Federation, vice-president appointed interim

Yildirim Demirören, president of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), has announced his resignation during a meeting of the TFF board of directors on 28/02/2019.

His company, Demirören Group, which also has a strong presence in the media sector, has just obtained, in a joint venture with game supplier Scientific Games, the 10-year management of Spor Toto, the public operator that holds  the Turkish sports betting monopoly, a market worth €2.7bn per year according to the Turkish government.

Hüsnü Güreli, vice-president of TFF, has been appointed as interim president of the Federation until the general assembly scheduled for June 2019.

"I have been honoured and proud to be president of the Turkish Federation for seven years and I would like to thank our president Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his support and confidence," said Yildirim Demirören on 28/02/2019.
