Spain: professional football generates 185,000 jobs and €4.1bn in tax revenue to the State (LaLiga)

"The professional football industry generates 185,000 jobs, €4.1bn in taxes and a turnover equal to 1.37% of Spain's GDP," announced LaLiga in presenting "an independent report called the 'Financial, Fiscal and Social Impact of Professional Football in Spain" (to download) conducted by the consultancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), on 28/02/2019.

"It (the report) confirms the enormous social and financial importance of professional football in our country and, subsequently, the importance of making responsible and well thought-out decisions about everything that affects an industry that is so relevant to our society," stated Javier Tebas, LaLiga president.

The PwC report, directed and presented by Jordi Esteve and Pablo Bascones, is based on data from the 2016-17 season. The previous edition had analyzed those of 2012-13. "In four years, employment has increased by 28%, tax revenues by 41% and the contribution to the economic activity of Spain has doubled," added LaLiga.
