"The fate of football should no longer be the preserve of a handful of elected officials. Defend the spirit of the game. Defend our football!," wrote Michel Platini, the former French international and former president of UEFA (2007 -2015) in a letter sent to FIFPro on 03/03/2019, the day after the IFAB General Meeting.

Meeting at Aberdeen (SCO), on 02/03/2019, the International Board decided to remove the idea of unintentional handball in case of goal or goal-scoring opportunity: "A decision was taken by the IFAB to provide a more precise and detailed definition for what constitutes handball, in particular with regard to the occasions when a unintentional/accidental handball will be penalised. For example a goal scored directly from the hand/arm (even if accidental) and a player scoring or creating a goal-scoring opportunity after having gained possession/control of the ball from their hand/arm (even if accidental) will no longer be permitted," announced the guardian body of the Laws of the Game, whose decisions at Aberdeen will come into effect on 01/06/2019.
