2.Bundesliga: Werner Spinner president of 1. FC Köln since 2012 to step down

Werner Spinner, has announced that he will step down as president of 1. FC Köln (2.Bundesliga), a position he has occupied since 2012, according to the club after its Joint Committee meeting on 06/03/2019.

"I have previously decided not to be available for another term beyond the autumn. Now I prefer this step, because I realised that there are differences over the current and future direction of 1. FC Köln. I sincerely wish 1. FC Köln, its members and fans and the battle for promotion all the best for the future," said Werner Spinner.

"The Joint Committee respects this decision. It thanks Mr Spinner for the many years of engaged work and his great merits to 1. FC Köln. It regrets the timing of his resignation. At the meeting, the members of the Joint Committee expressed their displeasure over the recent public statements by managing director, Armin Veh (see below) and clearly communicated this to him. Everyone agrees that the welfare of 1. FC Köln must come first," added the North Rhine-Westphalia club.
