2017-18 French professional football: record turnover of €2.8bn and a net loss of -€176m (DNCG)

"French professional football posted an exceptional economic performance at the end of the 2017-18 season, with a turnover of €2.836bn, up 31% compared to the previous season, and an operating profit of €161m compared to a loss of €32m the previous season," announced the DNCG, which published its annual financial report on 13/03/2019. Turnover excluding player trading amounted to €1.907bn on 30/06/2018, up 2% compared to 2016-17 (€1.86bn).

In contrast, the combined net result of the Ligue 1 Conforama and Domino's Ligue 2 showed a negative balance of -€176m (compared to a loss of €101m in 2016-17) in 2017-18, despite the fact "15 Ligue 1 Conforama clubs and 14 Domino's Ligue 2 clubs posted a net profit at the end of the season," added the body.

The performance of French professional clubs is characterised in particular by:
- "a record amount of €929m in capital gains related to player transfers (compared to €302m in 2016-17)
- a commercial momentum in clubs that is confirmed through operating profit up 2% compared to 2016-17, reaching €1.907bn
