FC Barcelona: candidate in 2010, Agustí Benedito, calls for presidential election in summer 2014

Agustí Benedito, an unsuccessful FC Barcelona presidential candidate in 2010 against Sandro Rosell, called for the new chairman, Josep Maria Bartomeu, to hold early elections during the summer of 2014, Benedito declared on the 29/01/2014.

Sandro Rosell resigned from his position as president of FC Barcelona (La Liga) during a special meeting of the Board of Directors on the 23/01/2014. This decision follows an investigation by the Spanish courts regarding the "misappropriation" of funds in the transfer of Brazilian player Neymar. Rosell's term, which began in 2010, was scheduled to be completed in 2016. As written in the statutes, the vice-president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, replaces him until the end of the term.

"In 2010, I took part in elections that Rosell won democratically and by a wide margin. Bartomeu in that moment was not a candidate; it was never specified in the voting who would be Rosell’s hypothetical replacement," said Agustí Benedito.
