"More than half the world's population watched as Russia put on a festival of football that brought a new perspective to the beautiful game and the host country itself," announced FIFA in its Activity Report 2018 which was unanimously approved by the World governing body's Council meeting in Miami (Florida, USA) on 15/03/2019.

"FIFA did so much more in 2018: we led the continued professionalisation of our sport around the world, we deepened our commitment to development, we made strides towards bringing much-needed structure to the club game, and one year ahead of women's football's showpiece event, we unveiled our Women's Football Strategy. It is fair to say that FIFA is engaging with the world as never before, and it is much to the benefit of football," said FIFA president Gianni Infantino in a foreword, opening the Activity Report 2018.
