NBA: an average of $7.83m from jersey sponsorship for each of the 30 franchises in 2018-19

The 30 NBA franchises receive an average of $7.83m (€6.9m on 19/03/2019) for their jersey sponsorship in 2018-19. This average is based on 22 franchises, the other eight have not communicated the value of their contracts paid by their left pocket sponsors.

Excluding the extreme values (Golden State Warriors, Utah Jazz and Toronto Raptors), this average drops to $7.21m (€6.35m). The median revenue is $6.3m (€5.55m). In total, the 22 clubs accumulate a combined $172.35m (€152m) from jersey sponsorship in 2018-19.

Golden State Warriors, two-time NBA title holders (2016-17 and 2017-18), have the highest value shirt sponsorship contract of the NBA franchishes, receiving $20m per season (€17.63m) from the Japanese group Rakuten (internet services). The Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks complete the podium with $14m (€12.34m) and $11m (€9.7m) respectively from Wish (e-commerce) and Squarespace (website publisher).

Of the 30 sponsors, 29 are based in North America (28 in the United States and 1 in Canada). With headquarters in Tokyo (JPN), Rakuten is the only brand based outside North…
