Fans of Atletico Madrid call for the Peineta stadium to be renamed "Estadio Luis Aragonés"

A Facebook page gathering more than 6,700 fans calls for the future stadium of Atletico Madrid (Liga BBVA), the Peineta, to be renamed "Estadio Luis Aragonés" after the death of the former Spanish national team manager (2004-2008) on the 01/02/2014.

Luis Aragonés spent time at Atletico Madrid as a player (1964-1974, 372 games, 172 goals) and three times as a manager (1974-1980, 1991-1993, 2001-2003). A tribute was paid to him before the match between Atletico and Real Sociedad (4-0, 22^nd Matchday of La Liga) on the 02/02/2014.

The Peineta stadium belongs to Atletico Madrid, and the club has launched a comprehensive reconstruction plan to modernise and bring the structure to 70,000 seats. The club would favor the use of naming rights to finance the cost of the renovation, estimated at €200 million. The Peineta stadium was supposed to be the Olympic stadium in Madrid if the Spanish capital had obtained the 2020 Summer Olympics (won by Tokyo on the 07/09/2013).
