The Walt Disney Company, a US media and entertainment group, has completed the acquisition of a majority share in the US media and film production conglomerate 21st Century Fox for $71bn (€62.5bn) on 19/03/2019.

Just before this acquisition, 21st Century Fox sold its news and sports subsidiaries, including its pay-TV network Fox Sports, present in the United States, Latin America, the Netherlands, Australia, Hong Kong and South-East Asia, to a new company, "Fox Corporation", created on the same day (19/03/2019).

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of the sports channel network ESPN, a competitor of Fox Sports in the United States, Latin America and Brazil. The American, Mexican and Brazilian regulators had ordered Fox to cede its sports channels before the aquisition by Disney.

The Indian audiovisual group Star India, which owns the broadcasting rights to the Premier League (2016-2019) and the Bundesliga (2015-2020), is part of the transaction and therefore now belongs to Disney.
