LaLiga Santander: RCD Espanyol exceed 2 million followers on social media

At the end of February 2019, Reial Club Deportiu Espanyol de Barcelona (LaLiga Santander) reached a combined total of 2 million followers on its social media accounts, according to the club on 20/03/2019.

"RCD Espanyol's social networks continue, at the end of February, following the same trend with which they ended 2018: growing. The figures represent an increase of more than 816,000 followers since the end of the year," said the Catalan club. This recent increase is mainly due to the arrival of Wu Lei (27), a Chinese international since 2010 (63 caps, 15 goals), who transferred from Shanghai SIPG FC (CSL) to the club for an estimated €2m in January 2019.

"The exponential change has occurred on Eastern social networks, which total 795,897 users in China, notably after the arrival of Wu Lei to the team in January. The clear example has been on Toutiao, the platform that functions as a news and information service. At the end of 2018, the club had no presence on the platform.
