South America: Facebook faces criticism for the quality of its CONMEBOL Libertadores broadcasts

The social network Facebook, which has been broadcasting CONMEBOL Libertadores matches in South America since 05/03/2019, is facing criticism from users who have been complaining about the quality of the images which are "at times in slow motion, cut or delayed," according to South American media reports, which have suggested (since 22/03/2019) that Facebook may lose the exclusive broadcasting rights of Thursday night matches (see details of CONMEBOL Libertadores games broadcast by Facebook below).

"Through our partnership with CONMEBOL we have exclusive rights for the Thursday Copa Libertadores matches until 2022," said Leonardo Lenz Cesar, Facebook's director of partnerships and sports programmes for Latin America, in a statement on 22/03/2019.

"Although the changes may generate some resistance, we are encouraged not only by the number of people watching the Libertadores on Facebook Watch, but also by the way fans use our platform to interact and participate in broadcasts.
