Italy: DAZN ordered to pay €500,000 by the Italian Competition Authority for "unfair practices"

AGCM, the Italian Competition Authority, has ordered Perform Investment Limited and Perform Media Services Srl to pay €500,000 for two "unfair business practices" in connection with the promotional activity of DAZN's streaming service offer on 25/03/2019, following a preliminary investigation opened in August 2018.

"The Authority found that the two companies, in violation of art. 21 of the Consumer Code, used, in the promotional activity of the DAZN streaming service for the live viewing of Serie A and Serie B matches in the 2018-19 season, advertising messages through which the possibility of using the service 'when you want, where you want' was emphasised, without making any reference to the technical limitations that could, instead, make it complicated or even prevent it, as demonstrated by the difficulties encountered in practice by consumers at the beginning of the season," stated the Authority.
