eSports: World Gaming Federation raises €2m from companies in order to create a social network

World Gaming Federation (WGF), a French eSports competition organiser, has raised €2m from, among others, Normandie Participations (Regional Investment Fund), Normandie Capital (real estate investment), BPI France Investissement (public investment bank) and the French footballer Mamadou Sakho to create a social network, announced the startup on 27/03/2019.

The main contributions, according to the French business daily Les Échos (on 27/03/2019), are:
• €700,000 from Normandie Participations and Normandie Capital funds
• Around €500,000 from Mamadou Sakho (Crystal Palace FC, Premier League)
• Unspecified contributions from various companies
• An unspecified contribution from BPI France

"The project is in the process of being commercialised. The purpose of the social network platform is, in the long term, to provide more accurate targeting for publishers. It will thus be possible to address communities of players identified according to games and geographical areas.
