Checkatrade Trophy: a record of 85,021 spectators for the Portsmouth - Sunderland final at Wembley

The 2019 Checkatrade Trophy final between Portsmouth FC and Sunderland AFC (2-2, 5-4 on pens) drew 85,021 spectators at Wembley Stadium (90,000 capacity) in London (ENG) on Sunday 31/03/2019 (kick-off at 14:30 local time), a record attendance for the final.

The Checkatrade Trophy, created in 1983 and organised by the English Football League, includes Sky Bet League One and Sky Bet League Two clubs, as well as sixteen category 1 ranked Premier League and Sky Bet Championship U21 sides. A total of 64 teams participate in the competition, the final of which is played at Wembley Stadium each season.

This 2019 final posted the second best attendance in Europe on the weekend of 30-31/03/2019, only beaten by FC Barcelona - RCD Espanyol (2-0, Matchday 29 of the 2018-19 LaLiga Santander season), which drew 92,795 spectators at the Camp Nou (99,354 capacity).
