DFL: "Generation Z (1997-2009) more willing to pay for content than older generations" (study)

"Generation Z (people born between 1997 and 2009) appreciates high-quality content and is more willing to pay for it than older generations are," according to the "Future Study Bundesliga Consumption" (document available to download) published by the WHU-Otto Beisheim School of Management (WHU) commissioned by the Deutsche Fußball Liga on 25/03/2019.

The study is based on an analysis of the media consumption habits of 6,150 people from four generations: Generation Z, Generation Y (people born between 1981 and 1996), Generation X (1965-1980) and the "baby boomers" (1946-1964). "The latest figures show that Gen Z is very interested in what is happening in the Bundesliga. At four and a half hours, it is the age group with the highest average Bundesliga consumption per matchday. At the same time, there are new trends in media use that will result in changes in broadcast formats and the creation of additional content," said Professor Sascha L. Schmidt, director of the Center for Sports and Management at WHU in charge of the study.
